RYAN KINDER - "DOING FINE" (FEAT. SYKAMORE)
RELEASE TOOLS

LYRICS
I tried to hate you
But I knew that wouldn’t last
Hard moving forward
When you’re always looking back
Trying to find where we went wrong
Forever didn’t take too long
I tried to hate you, but I know I ain’t that strong
I hope you have to lie when someone asks you how you’re doing
You tell ‘em you’re alright but you’re barely getting through it
It’s easier if we hurt the same, if you’re a wreck when you hear my name
I need your heart to break like mine
I’m not ok if you’re doing fine
Don’t wanna be friends
That only hurts more
When you’re off the deep end
Keeping one foot on shore
I’m holding out to see if you
Are miserable like I am too
And it just might make me a fool
I hope you have to lie when someone asks you how you’re doing
You tell ‘em you’re alright but you’re barely getting through it
It’s easier if we hurt the same, if you’re a wreck when you hear my name
I need your heart to break like mine
I’m not ok if you’re doing fine
I hope you have to lie when someone asks you how you’re doing
You tell ‘em you’re alright but you’re barely getting through it
It’s easier if we hurt the same, if you’re a wreck when you hear my name
I need your heart to break like mine
I’m not ok if you’re doing fine

QUOTES FROM THE CREATORS
"It’s a stressful way to live, always saying you’re fine when you truly are not. Be it a relationship, work or just in general. I had the line “I’m not ok if you’re doing fine” milling around in my head for awhile and it finally clicked with Justin and Sykamore. At its heart, it’s just being honest about yourself and how you feel. In this song, the singers just lay it out there. The characters portrayed are completely candid about what’s going on inside."
- Ryan Kinder
"I loved working with Ryan. I feel like this song does well to showcase both of us as individual artists, but also as collaborators. We have edges and complexities in our own projects, so it was a unique and fun challenge bringing them together and seeing what we could create. Getting to write and sing on this with a talent like Ryan was a privilege and I’m very proud of it."
- Sykamore
"I was so excited to work with these two artists on a song like this. We knew from the beginning even while writing that we didn’t want to write just another country duet, we wanted to push some boundaries. I am lucky enough that both Sykamore and Ryan were totally on board with also pushing those boundaries sonically. What resulted was one of the most fun songs that I’ve had the pleasure of working on in a long time. It’s a daunting job to take a power house vocalist like Ryan and a silky smooth vocalist like Sykamore and put them together cohesively in a way that makes it sound like they’ve been singing together for years, but they are total pros and made that an easy job for me. Ryan’s voice has the natural pain to it that resonates tells a story without trying. Sykamore has the kind of vocal that makes you believe every word she says. Anytime I can work with artists that I am truly a fan of it’s a good day in the studio. Good songs are just a bonus!"
